Naturally curly hair is sometimes a bit harder to style, but perm hair is easier to style because you usually already thought about the size of the curls. This way your morning routine will take less time. Especially short hair perms require hardly any attention in the morning.

You can get a perm with any hair length: short, medium long.

When you have medium long hair, then a perm will result in a bit of a beach look and the use of a sea salt spray is advised to make your hair less frizzy in the morning.

When your hair is longer, then a perm can make your look like a rockstar with that wavy or curly hair. The curlier you make it, the shorter it looks, so make sure to keep your hair a bit longer when you want to go for a perm.

How is a perm done for guys?

When you made the decision to go for a perm, it is important to go to a hair salon or barber that is specialized in this kind of hairstyle. Go to your stylist with clean washed hair without any hair styling products. Otherwise your hair needs to get washed and usually that cost a bit extra.

Now you will have to choose your curl size and then your hair will get perm wraps. Then the formula will be added to your hair to help change the texture of your hair.

This process feel a bit wet and you will also smell it. It is a chemical process to change the texture of your hair. They usually use Ammonium thioglycolate to change the protein structures in your hair.

It maybe seems appealing to perm and color your hair at the same time, but both are chemical processes that are not the healthiest for your hair. It is best to leave at least a week between appointments so you give your hair some time to recover.

Different types of perms for men

There are many different types of perms for men. I will highlight a few of them and tell you more about it.

Root perm

The root perm helps to achieve more volume. Only the hair close to your scalp will be treated and that will prevent your hair from falling flat on your head. It creates some air and volume for thicker looking hair.

Korean perm

You might already know the Korean perm, because you have seen it on Twitter when K-pop musicians were trolling Twitter. This kind of perm provides very nice waves.

Wavy perm

If you want a bit more waves that are already looking a little bit like a curl, then a wavy perm could be for you. It looks like one big curl basically.

Pringlet perm

Do you want a noticeable curl, but not too small? Then you should ask for a pringlet perm.

Spiral perm

Do you prefer smaller curls that look like little spirals? Then you should take a spiral perm. This will result in many small curls and create a lot of body.

No matter what kind of perm you are going for, you need to take good care of your hair afterwards. The first few days you should not use any shampoo, but afterwards you can start nourishing your new curls.
