Thinning hair men: What can you do?
When you think of a handsome man, then you usually think of a man with a full head of hair and great hairstyle. It can be a bit painful when you have thin hair, because it make it seem like you have a receding hairline, but that does not have to be the case. Hair is a very important part of your self image, also as a man.[1].
I know men that always had that Vegeta kind of hairstyle. The have a widow's peak and thin hair, but it never progressed. So, they are not actually balding.
How to make the best of your thinning hair?
Causes of hair thinning men
First of all it is smart to find out why your hair is thin or is getting thinner. Like mentioned before, some men just always had thin hair, so in that case it is just genetics.
Of course you can also be in the first stage of balding and that this caused your thinner hair.
In some cases it can be caused by alopecia. This is an illness that makes your hair fall out and not just on your head, but everywhere. Also women can experience this.
When you have alopecia, you can only do something about it with medication. Japanese research shows that men with this condition benefit from applying adenosine on their skin. It slowed down the hair loss and the rest of the hair was thicker compared to a group that got a placebo.[2].
It is also interesting to know that smoking and al ot of sunlight (UV radiation) is bad for your hair and can cause thinner or grey hair. (source 1). The increased exposure of free radicals damages your hair. That is why it is very popular to properly condition your hair with high quality products that contain antioxidants, like vitamin E.
Thinning hair is also a signal for men.
When you hair suddenly is getting thinner, it can be a signal that your overall health is declining. Especially when there is no hereditary male pattern baldness in your family. Danish research shows that it also means that you have a higher risk of suffering a hart attack[3].
Testosterone is often mentioned as the culprit for hair loss, but when you experience mild hair loss, it can even be caused by a lack of testosterone. So, it can be smart to have this checked by your general physician[4].
Hair products that thicken thin hair again
There are a few ways to make your thinning hair appear thicker again. When you experience mild hair loss, you can consider applying a 5% Minoxidil solution to slow down or stop your hair loss for about 5 to 10 years, but you should do this after you checked your testosterone levels. If it turns out your testosterone is too low, then that should be replenished as well (source 4).
You can also ask your doctor for Finasteride. This is medication and has potential side effects. You can also use it as a topical. The ointment will contain about 0,25% Finasteride in that case. You can combine that with Minoxidil. In this blog post I talk more about hereditary baldness and finasteride.
You do not want a too low level of testosterone, but too much of it can make your hair thinner. To stop the thinning of your hair, you can start using hair products that contain DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blockers. For men there are shampoos and conditioners that contain these DHT blockers.
The Arcadian X Black River Shampoo contains these blockers. This product is a collaboration with Nick Kinsley, the owner of a famous barber shop, and the Arcadian Grooming team. This premium shampoo removes dirt and product build-up, but without stripping your hair of its natural oils.
Arcadian X Black River Shampoo contains many natural and organic ingredients to nourish your hair. The formula is aloe vera based and provides a lot of hydration. It also creates more volume in your hair. And this shampoo for men does not contain any parabens or sulfates. This product is vegan.

The conditioner of this same brand also contains DHT blockers.
You cannot only find DHT blockers in hair care products, but also some hair styling products have them. That way you can enjoy the benefits of these blockers whole day long.
Billy Jealousy Sculpt Friction Fiber Paste contains some DHT blocker to prevent hair thinning. This product is great for men with thin hair, because your hair will look thicker and gets more volume. The formula contains natural extracts to nourish your hair and scalp.
You can expect a medium hold and a semi-matte finish. Layered hairstyles or out-of-bed looks are best when using this hair paste. This paste works best for men with medium to long hair. The formula does not contain sulfates and you can use it safely in colored hair.

Billy Jealousy also has a shampoo and conditioner for DHT blockers in their product line. You can look up the Billy Jealousy Fuzzy Logic Shampoo and the Cashmere Coat Conditioner in the Moquer Shop.
Hairstyles for men with thin hair
In the description of the above mentioned styling product it already said it was smart to have a layered hairstyles or a messy look, like out-of-bed looks. Men with thin hair will also benefit from looks where the hair is not cut straight and when the hairstyle is a bit tousled or messy. That makes your hair look thicker. Depending on how thin your hair actually is, you can also go for short and messy or actually a medium long hairstyle.
If your hair is getting too long, then the length can give it away that your hair is becoming thinner, so do not choose a very long hairstyle.
