Hair Gel

What is hair gel?

Hair gel, also known as styling gel, is probably something you are already familiar with, but perhaps mainly because of those large coloured hair gel pots in the supermarket or drugstores. The hair gels in the Moquer shop are a bit different and contain better ingredients, but the properties are largely the same.

Men's styling gel

When you look at the ingredient list of a hair gel, you will almost always see water (or aqua) first. Then there are likely copolymers (also known as PVP) and some glycerine or panthenol for hydration.

A hair gel can be used in all hair types and also all hair textures, but with fine hair you quickly see the scalp with a shiny hair gel, so there are other products that work better in that case. But also in wavy and curly hair a hair gel can work to smoothen and straighten your hair a bit.

Properties of hair gel for men

That brings us straight to one of the best-known properties of hair gel, namely the shine. Almost every styling gel gives a lot of shine and often a medium to strong hold. In many cases, a hair gel is a bit similar to a water-based pomade, but a water-based pomade is a bit more versatile.

A gel is almost always water-based and dries in your hair. Once it has dried, you cannot change your hairstyle anymore. That can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. At least a hair gel washes out easily with just warm water.

A styling gel is not versatile and is mainly intended to hold your hair up. In the morning, you style your hair and it stays in place all day long. Restyling is unfortunately not an option without first wetting your hair again.

Which men’s hairstyles work best with styling gel?

Certainly in the past, but even nowadays, hair gel works best for that spiky hair that is styled straight up. The modern hair gels can also be used for sleeker looks, such as a slick-back, side-part or possibly a pompadour.

Men’s hairstyles that require a strong hold and a lot of shine can be styled well with a styling gel. A gel almost always results in a wet look, especially when applied to damp hair. When applied to dry hair, you will get a bit less shine in your hair and a higher hold.

Best men's hair gel

In the Moquer shop, hair gel is a slightly smaller category, as the products are not as versatile compared to other categories. But the selection contains some great brands with popular products. Nowadays, the Pacinos Styling Gel is one of the most popular options. Other options worth checking out are the Hanz de Fuko Gel Triq and the hybrid product Imperial Gel Pomade, a combination between a hair gel and pomade.

If you have very wavy or curly hair, then the Bumble and Bumble Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil is a great option for extra definition, styling and hydration. If you’re looking for the healthiest ingredients, then take a look at the hair gel and hair glue from Brickell Men’s Products.
