Properties of a water based pomade

The main property of a water based pomade is that it dries in your hair. It will harden like a hair gel. It depends on the individual pomade how much it dries. That is the reason why your hair stays in place whole day long, but it also means you cannot restyle your hair without wetting it again.

Most pomades that are water based provide a medium to high hold. What it comes to the finish it is the same, so a medium to shiny finish. Perhaps you have seen an episode of Boardwalk Empire or Peaky Blinders. The hairstyles in these shows or other wet hair looks are easily obtained with a water based pomade.

The last property is washability. A water based pomade will rinse out easily with just warm water. In most cases you will not need a shampoo to wash it out clean.

What men's hairstyles work best with a water based pomade?

A water based pomade works best for slick and tight looks. Messy or tousled hairstyles do not really work with pomades that are water based. So, you can best go for a slick-back, pompadour, side-part or other smooth and shiny wet hair looks that are inspired on the 1920’s to 1960’s hairstyles.
