What is a body wash?

A body wash is the first step of a good body care routine. A body wash is sometimes also called a shower gel or body gel. There are tiny differences, but all these products basically do the same and have the same properties.

A body wash is a cleansing product, so when you have been exercising or when it was a hot day, you want to shower and wash away all the grime and sweat. It is best to use a body wash every time you are stepping in the shower. Just some warm water will not be enough unless you just quickly want to refresh yourself.

Not all body washes are the same. Men’s skin is thicker and requires other products. So, it is recommended to use body washes that are developed for men. They provide a better cleansing and will have a pleasant fragrance. Choose a natural body wash that contain healthy ingredients and natural extracts.

When to use a body wash?

As said before, it is definitely necessary to use a body wash when you went to the gym or did any exercise. But also, when you want to freshen up in the morning after 8 hours of sleep, your invigorating body wash is nice to use and helps you to start your day fresh and clean.

You can also use a body wash when you shower in the evening, but when you wake up the next morning, you probably will not notice anything refreshing anymore and you can basically start over in the morning. Sleeping does that to you.

How to use a body wash?

Most body washes are meant to foam a lot. Especially body washes with sulphates help to create lather more easily. Sulphate free body washes tend to foam a bit less.
When you step in the shower it is best to rinse of your skin with just warm water. Then you already removed quite a lot of sweat and dirt off your skin. Afterwards you can apply a body wash or shower gel on your wet skin. Create lather and massage it gently on your skin to apply it evenly.

For the best result you should use a loofah or sponge to apply your body wash on your skin. Rinse it off immediately after. There is no use to let it sit for a while, because that can make your skin dry. Only a conditioner you should leave in your hair for a few minutes to nourish your hair.

If you want a deeper cleansing, you can have a look at a body scrub.

Can I use body wash as shampoo?

No, I would not recommend using a body wash as a shampoo. I would also not use a shampoo as a body wash. Both are formualted for specific purposes. A shampoo would be too harsh for your skin, because it is meant to degrease your hair. It will wash away too many of your skin's natural oils. Vise versa that means a body wash is usually not powerful enough to clenase your hair properly.
